Questions

Frequently asked

What is EBUS and when is it needed?

Endobronchial ultrasound lets us see beyond the airway wall and sample lymph nodes or lung lesions with a needle, usually as a day-care procedure under sedation. It is the standard way to diagnose and stage lung cancer and to evaluate mediastinal nodes in sarcoidosis or tuberculosis.

Do I need a sleep study for snoring?

Loud snoring with daytime sleepiness, morning headaches or witnessed pauses in breathing usually warrants a sleep study. If obstructive sleep apnoea is confirmed, CPAP or BiPAP is titrated and reviewed for long-term comfort and adherence.

How is a pleural effusion treated?

Fluid is first sampled and analysed. Depending on the cause, treatment ranges from drainage to medical thoracoscopy with biopsy, pleurodesis, or an indwelling pleural catheter for recurrent malignant effusion.

What should I bring to the consultation?

Previous prescriptions, chest X-rays or CT scans (film or CD), pulmonary function reports, sleep study reports and a list of current inhalers or medicines.
